About Callum
I have tutored a range of students aged between 6 and 18 years old, teaching for a variety of circumstances - from KS1 to 11+ exams, right through to A-levels and Oxbridge applications. I've just graduated with a first-class degree in English, and so my greater passion and expertise lie in that subject. A big benefit of the degree is that I'm likely to have encountered any author that a school curriculum throws up.
Other non-academic interests include music and sport: I have taught guitar and coached football to students aged 3-15. But I also think those activities inflect the way I tutor. For younger pupils especially, I have found that tailoring learning with reference to their specific interests - setting a maths problem or an English story, for example, in terms of a sport they enjoy, an instrument they play, or a film they like - can reinvigorate otherwise challenging work.
It is five years now that I have been tutoring. I began as a teenager working on weekends to fund studio time with my band, then became an undergraduate working during holidays to pay my university fees. I've now left and am setting my sights on becoming a professional tutor, while continuing to compose and arrange scores for theatre and film productions on the side.
