About Katie
Hi, I’m Katie! I am a fully qualified English teacher with 10 years of experience helping students achieve top grades and, more importantly, confidence in their abilities. I’ve taught English to students aged 11–18, specialising in Literature (particularly Shakespeare), Creative Writing, and exam preparation. Alongside my classroom teaching, I’m also:
- Leader of Key Stage Five English at my school
- Holder of an MA in Creative Writing
- An AQA Examiner for both English Language and Literature GCSE.
These roles have given me a deep understanding of how to guide students to meet (and exceed!) exam expectations, as well as how to nurture creativity and critical thinking.
I’m passionate about making English accessible, engaging, and rewarding for every learner. Whether you’re aiming for a top grade, struggling to “get” Shakespeare, or want to craft a standout personal statement for university, I’ll give you the tools, insight, and encouragement to succeed.

My teaching is tailored to each student’s needs. There’s no one-size-fits-all approach. I use a mix of examiner insight, interactive discussion, and targeted practice tasks to build both understanding and exam confidence. For creative writing, I combine step-by-step skill building with opportunities to experiment and develop a unique voice. A typical lesson lasts 60 minutes, with a clear focus for each session. (e.g. essay planning, text analysis, creative writing techniques). We begin by reviewing your current strengths and challenges, then work through targeted exercises and real exam-style tasks. I provide constructive feedback and strategies you can apply independently between lessons. I offer online lessons via Zoom or Teams, as well as in-person tutoring for local students in KS3 - KS5.
