About Aminata

As a classroom teacher and literacy interventionist, I have supported scholars with a wide range of learning needs and reading abilities. I understand that every child learns differently, so I take the time to identify their strengths, pinpoint areas for growth, and personalize instruction accordingly.

My goal is to create a supportive learning environment where scholars feel comfortable making mistakes, asking questions, celebrating their progress, and developing a genuine love for reading.

Whether your child is learning their first letter sounds, beginning to blend words, developing reading fluency, or strengthening comprehension and writing skills, I am here to provide patient, structured, and engaging instruction tailored to their needs.

About the lesson

Learning to read should feel exciting, encouraging, and achievable. As an elementary educator with 9 years of classroom experience, I specialize in early literacy, phonics, reading, and writing. My approach is rooted in the Science of Reading and structured literacy, which means I explicitly teach the skills students need to become confident and independent readers.

My Teaching Approach

I begin by getting to know each scholar as a learner. I identify what they already know, where they are struggling, and which foundational skills need additional support. From there, I create personalized lessons based on their individual needs and reading level.

My lessons include explicit phonics instruction, sound manipulation, blending, word building, decoding, fluency practice, vocabulary, comprehension, and writing when appropriate. I use hands on activities, games, word cards, decodable texts, and engaging reading activities so scholars are actively participating rather than simply completing worksheets. What Does a Typical Lesson Look Like?

A typical lesson may include:

1. Warm Up: Review previously taught sounds, words, or skills.

2. Explicit Instruction: Introduce or reinforce a specific phonics or reading skill.

3. Guided Practice: Practice the skill together using sounds, letters, words, or text.

4. Apply the Skill: Read words and decodable text that allow the scholar to use the skill independently.

5. Review and Celebrate: Check for understanding, identify progress, and celebrate what the scholar accomplished.

Lessons are intentionally structured while remaining flexible. If a scholar needs additional practice with a foundational skill, I adjust the lesson rather than rushing ahead.

What Sets Me Apart?

I bring the perspective of a classroom teacher and literacy interventionist to every lesson. I have experience teaching scholars across multiple elementary grade levels and supporting students who need additional instruction in phonics, decoding, fluency, reading comprehension, and writing.

I don't believe in a one size fits all approach. My goal is to figure out why a scholar is struggling and teach the specific skill they need, while building their confidence along the way.

Most importantly, I want scholars to leave each lesson thinking, "I can do this!"
