About Avni
Hi there, I’m Avni! I have been tutoring for years meaning I have a deep understanding of exam board requirements and knowledge required for my students to succeed. I tutor in chemistry, biology, physics and maths at KS2, KS3, GCSE and A-level grade. Here’s a bit about me - I have recently completed and passed my final exams for med school, and am working as a doctor. My academic journey has been very science and maths based as these subjects have intrigued me since a young age. This encouraged me to learn more and eventually led to me achieving all A’s and A*s at GCSE and A-level grade. My passion for these subjects meant that I was eager to share my knowledge, so I started volunteering at revision societies in school. The satisfaction I received after explaining a concept to someone in a way they were able to understand was extremely fulfilling and invited me to consider more ways that I could pursue teaching. Consequently, I started private tutoring and have been doing so for years. I have tutored numerous students at primary, GCSE and A level grade in science and maths. Having sat the exams myself, I am aware of the tips to perfecting exam technique to achieve the grades students are capable of! Prior students of mine have gone on to pass their exams with exemplary results and themselves and their parents have expressed their gratitude towards the effort that go into my sessions, as I work to tailor my sessions to each students’ needs. I have also tutored numerous students as part of my medical degree ranging from one-to-one sessions, to delivering revision lectures to groups of students. Further experiences include being the representative of a national teaching society, delivering research findings at multiple conferences and writing learning material for revision websites. These experiences have allowed me to refine my teaching skills by showing me the most effective methods of learning which I implement in my tutoring sessions. I provide a comfortable learning environment where students feel able to ask any questions, through my bubbly personality and ability to build good rapport with students, and parents. My goal is to not only see an improvement in students' grades, but also in their interest in the subject by providing fun, interactive and informative sessions. I look forward to working with all my students, and to learn together! My teaching style aims at initially establishing students' knowledge level, followed by a tailored approach to their specific requirements - this often involves a combination of covering content, problem-solving questions and perfecting exam technique. In order to pass exams, it is important that students grasp the underlying concepts rather than simply memorising facts, which I achieve by breaking down complex topics into more digestible parts, using interactive teaching methods and using real-world examples to keep students motivated. These techniques have proven to be very effective with previous students, and lead to an enjoyable and productive learning experience. GCSE and A level exams often have specific formats and requirements so I often help students familiarise themselves with the exam structure and practise past papers which are crucial for success. Providing constructive feedback on students' progress is essential for improvement hence I include assessment and reflection at intervals to help identify areas where students are struggling and adjust teaching strategies accordingly. This also highlights improvements they have made to their skills and knowledge as this provides encouragement. - Which subject(s) do you teach? I teach KS2, KS3, GCSE and A-level grade Maths and Science (chemistry, biology and physics). - Where do you teach?
