About Nina
As an active pianist on the concert platform, I aim to inspire and pass on my passion I have for the piano on to my students. I believe that in order to achieve a high level of technical and artistic mastery, it is necessary to address each and every student's individual needs. I ensure to treat each of my students according to their own requirements and give them the full support needed to prepare them for any future exams, or concerts they may have in the future. Not only are you learning to play the piano, but you are also learning how to practise effectively. Therefore it's essential that I demonstrate how to make the most of their time practising during a busy schedule, in order to make maximum improvement. I support the philosophy of teaching which promotes actively learning from and listening to students, thus enhancing and hastening exchange of knowledge during lessons. I believe having extracurricular activities is important to a musicians' life. I enjoy playing lots of sports, and this has taught me how to balance my musical commitments combined with hobbies to relax. As a result, I am aware that my students will have other commitments, and the piano may not be their first priority. In this position, it is my job to guide my students and help them balance their practise with their other commitments. Being at a specialist music school for 6 years, I was sought to assist both in teaching and guiding pupils with their musical studies, and also taught outside Wells where I prepared some for their graded exams (ABRSM and Trinity). I am also an avid chamber musician, and by working in a group, I grasped the skills needed to make a piano trio work; individual preparation, organisation, listening and communication amongst each other, as well as constantly striving for the spirit of any piece of music. I feel these skills are useful when teaching the piano, and I strive to implement them during each lesson. I recently became a member of EPTA (European Piano Teachers' Association) which will support the development of my teaching skills further in the future. I was introduced to the piano at the age of five at the Rimsky-Korsakov Saint Petersburg State Conservatory, Russia and my love for music has stayed with me since then. After having been a scholar at a specialist music school, I achieved success at both national and international competitions, including the Birmingham Music Competition, Windsor International and the Scottish Youth International. I've also been fortunate to have taken part in BBC Young Musician. In December 2018, I was awarded the Robert Lewin Scholarship from Awards for Young Musicians which enabled me to work alongside the BBC Symphony Orchestra at Maida Vale Studios- an unforgettable experience. The best part about being a pianist is performing and engaging with my audience. I have given concerts across the UK and Europe, such as Serbia, France and Germany. Moreover, I was invited to perform by Budleigh Salterton Music Festival, Fowey Festival, and played alongside Exeter Symphony Orchestra. This year I opened East Devon Music Festival in memory of a local harpist, and performed in concerts in Crediton and Sidmouth. My 2020 recitals will take place in Exmouth, Weymouth, London, Edinburgh, Cheshire, Manchester, Greece, Croatia, and at East Devon Music Festival and Fowey Festival. While at Wells Cathedral School, I was fortunate to work with prominent pianists including Barry Douglas, Christopher Elton, Vovka Ashkenazy, Stephen Hough, Joanna MacGregor and Steven Osborne. This has helped me develop as a pianist and take note of their high level of teaching. Since September 2019, I am a first year scholar at the Royal Northern College of Music studying under Professor Ashley Wass, where I look forward to taking part in the intercollegiate competitions, as well as doing more recitals and expand my repertoire. I have known Nina Savicevic for around ten years, and have both taught and worked with her as a professional musician. Her professional consistency and meticulous work ethic will ensure that she goes far, and I have no doubt that her students will relish the opportunities which she presents to them.
