About Halimah
I would love to help all students with their English at any stage. I am a qualified 5-11 primary teacher but I have vast experience in tutoring 11-18 years old with their English GCSE work. I am currently working within the Higher Education sector whereby I am supporting students to progress into the world of work. My tutoring style is student-focused and promotes a love of learning of the English language.
My aim is to promote the independence of every student by challenging them through advanced learning techniques so that they can acquire a love for learning through progression of study. I offer tailored educational support for students of all abilities and stages of development to progress with their academic and personal development. My innovative Method of Teaching involves building an inspirational virtual study environment through providing immersive reading activities and boosting writing skills by completing collaborative projects with modern-day twists. It also consists of self-assessment to benefit the student into grasping the value of their work and understanding the root of their improvement.
What will the first lesson look like? The first lesson will be tailored to the student’s progress and ability. The lesson objectives will be clearly stated and will correspond with the academic and curriculum guidelines. This will be communicated to the student so that they are perfectly clear on the goal of the lesson. Engagement will be made with students with starter activities to give students hands-on activities to enhance the lesson’s objectives and to establish the existing knowledge in relation to the learning content. Students will be challenged through questioning and modelling the language of the subject so that there are clear expectations to produce answers with the correct terminology. The content of the lesson will be explained thoroughly, and students will be set with tasks that will demonstrate clear understanding of the overall learning goals. Assessment for learning will be richly embedded through the use of feedback strategies such as plenary-style questioning, verbal feedback or acting on feedback from marking. Also, throughout the lesson as a tutor I will respond and adapt the lesson or questioning in response to the feedback from our students. Each lesson will be a build-up of the previous skills and knowledge learnt to encourage the independence, motivation, and competence within students.
