About Caitlin
Hi!
I am a college English instructor, published author, and professional writing tutor with more than ten years of experience teaching academic writing, literature, research, argumentation, and creative writing. I hold an MFA in Creative Writing from Northwestern University and an MA in English from DePaul University, and my writing has been published in several literary journals.
As a teacher and tutor, I care deeply about helping students become more confident, thoughtful, and effective writers. I have worked with students at many levels, from first-year college writers to advanced students preparing research papers, personal statements, creative work, and application essays. My goal is always to help students strengthen their writing while preserving their own ideas and voice.
Students can expect lessons that are professional, encouraging, and carefully tailored to their needs. Whether we are working on a thesis statement, essay structure, grammar, research, revision, or a college application essay, I provide clear feedback, practical strategies, and a supportive space for improvement.

My tutoring approach is supportive, practical, and highly individualized. I help students become stronger, more confident writers by focusing not only on grammar and sentence structure, but also on clarity, organization, argument, voice, and purpose. Rather than simply “fixing” a paper, I explain why revisions work so students can apply those skills to future assignments.
A typical lesson depends on the student’s goals. For essay tutoring, we may begin by reviewing the assignment prompt, identifying the student’s main argument, strengthening the thesis, improving paragraph organization, and revising sentences for clarity and style. For college application essays or personal statements, I help students brainstorm meaningful topics, shape a compelling narrative, preserve their authentic voice, and polish the final draft.
What sets me apart is my combination of professional writing experience and college-level teaching experience. I am a published author with an MFA in Creative Writing, and I have taught college writing, research, literature, and argumentation for more than ten years. I know how instructors evaluate writing, and I also understand how to help students develop work that feels thoughtful, specific, and genuinely their own.
