About Charley
I’m a final-year Biomedical Science student at the University of Bath, and I have been tutoring for the past five years. My interest in science has continued to grow throughout university, particularly through the opportunity to apply what I have learnt beyond the classroom and experience scientific research first-hand. This passion has grown even further following my recent placement year at the University of Arizona, where I gained first-hand experience working within a research laboratory. Seeing science applied beyond the classroom strengthened my enthusiasm for the subject and made me even more passionate about sharing that enthusiasm with others through teaching.
One of the reasons I enjoy tutoring is being able to share that enthusiasm with other students. I find it incredibly rewarding when a student begins to understand a topic they previously struggled with and becomes more confident in their own ability. I particularly enjoy finding different ways of explaining concepts and seeing that moment when something finally clicks.
Having tutored students with a range of abilities and learning styles, I’ve also learnt that there is no single approach that works for everyone. I want my students to feel comfortable asking questions, making mistakes and telling me when they don’t understand something. Creating that supportive environment is a really important part of tutoring for me.
Alongside my degree, I have developed a particular interest in scientific communication and hope to pursue this further in my future career. Tutoring gives me the opportunity to combine my enthusiasm for science with my enjoyment of communicating complex ideas in an accessible and engaging way.
Ultimately, I teach because I want students to leave lessons feeling more confident in themselves and more capable of tackling a subject that they may once have found daunting.

I’m a Biomedical Science student at the University of Bath and a friendly, conscientious tutor with five years of tutoring experience. My lessons are carefully planned around each student, with the aim of building both confidence and a strong understanding of Biology and Chemistry.
I see tutoring as a conversation rather than simply teaching at a student. We’ll work together to identify the areas you find challenging and discover the learning techniques that work best for you. Whether you learn through diagrams, videos, practice questions or talking through a concept step-by-step, I’ll adapt each lesson to suit your individual learning style.
Science can sometimes feel overwhelming, particularly when faced with complex topics and lots of new terminology. I aim to make these concepts more approachable by breaking them down into manageable steps and using relevant real-life examples to show how what you are learning applies beyond the textbook. As a Biomedical Science student, I love being able to share my enthusiasm for science and hopefully make topics that initially seem daunting much more interesting and understandable.
Exam technique is also a key part of my lessons. Understanding the content is important, but knowing how to apply that knowledge to an exam question is equally valuable. We’ll regularly work through exam-style questions, looking at how to approach them, identify what the examiner is asking for and understand where marks are awarded. This helps students gradually build confidence in both their knowledge and their ability to demonstrate it in an exam.
Most importantly, my lessons are flexible. As we get to know what works best for you, I’ll continually adapt our sessions around your progress and goals. I’m also happy to provide additional practice between lessons where helpful and support students with particular questions or topics they would like to revisit.
