About PAUL
I studied German, Italian and linguistics at Cambridge University (Clare College, 1982-86). In 1990 I completed a TEFLA teacher training course (Teaching English as a Foreign Language to Adults, RSA/Cambridge). I was awarded a doctorate (PhD) in Irish and Celtic Studies in 2011. I have been teaching English and foreign languages for over 3 decades. Most of the programmes on which I taught during the 1990s were organised by Kerry Education Services, the local education authority for Co. Kerry. These included evening courses in German, English as a foreign language and courses in German and IT for adults returning to secondary education to gain qualifications. I have also taught at several private language schools and given private tuition to individuals. In the last 8 years I have taught English to a number of Polish students in Belfast. In summer 2016 I co-ordinated and delivered an intensive 3-month business English language course to an important individual student for Berlitz in Northern Ireland.

My lessons cover all aspects of language, including grammar, vocabulary, pronunciation, presenting new material and then developing this through drills, role plays and freer exercises. I use some supplementary material from other formats, such as language learning games and songs. Depending on the student's needs, we may focus primarily on listening and speaking, or may also include reading and writing.
