About Helen

'Violin with Helen' is an established and successful String Academy that provides adults and children age 4+ with a comprehensive and exceptional music education.
Helen Hines regularly teaches at workshops worldwide, and has a number of published articles on violin pedagogy. Students of Violin with Helen have performed for a number of high profile events, including private performances for well-known celebrities and artists from the film, television and music industries, as well as festivals, competitions and charity performances. A number of students have also been members of the National Children’s Orchestra of Great Britain, regional youth orchestras, the Royal Academy of Music, and the Royal College of Music. They also hold a number of music scholarships, regularly place highly in regional and national competitions, and routinely achieve the highest results in their ABRSM and Trinity music exams.

Teaching is based around the Suzuki philosophy, and students are encouraged to reach their potential in a warm and nurturing environment. ABRSM, Trinity and LCM Exam success rates are extremely high, with most students achieving a Distinction or high Merit result.
Individual Violin Lessons are offered for new starters through to Diploma level, including all ABRSM/Trinity Grades 1-8, and all students are encourage to participate in online group lessons to aid motivation, connect with other students, form a community, and learn in a fun and fast paced environment.
Group Lessons take place every 2-3 Sundays, and are also online via Zoom. Students are scheduled to take a violin class and a theory class appropriate to their needs.
For all individual lessons, theory lesson and groups, the latest teaching technology is utilised, from our online student system and resources area, to Google Classrooms, Microsoft Teams. Helen's studio is high-tech with highest quality multiple cameras and microphone equipment to deliver the best lesson experience.
Termly online Recital Concerts engage every performer, and are an invaluable experience in performance training and high-level coaching, preparing students for their lives ahead in both the near and far futures.
Theory of Music is offered from pre-Grade 1 to Grade 5 in both ABRSM and Trinity exam boards. Individualised courses are set up to ensure student success, including mock exams and past exam paper practise.
GCSE performance and listening elements can be worked on with students to aim for the highest grade levels for both Edexcel, AQA and OCR.
