About Liz
Hi, I’m Liz! I’m a special education professional with a Master’s in Elementary and Special Education.
My mission? To make sure every student—no matter their learning profile—has a seat at the table and the tools to lead the conversation.
The "Pro" Side of Things
I’m a bit of a "detective" when it comes to learning. I specialize in taking complex psychoeducational data (the heavy stuff like WIAT-4 scores) and translating it into a "game plan" that actually works for students, teachers, and families.
The "Fun" Side of Things
I don’t just advocate for students from behind a desk and help them assist themselves—I’m usually right there in the mix with them.
Soccer & Spirit: I grew up playing competitive soccer, and that "teammate first" mentality has never left me. Last year, I channeled that energy into coaching a 5th/6th grade soccer team.
The Poetry Slam: I recently coached my elementary students to a 1st Place win at the 2024 Boston Scores Poetry Slam. Seeing them find their voices was easily a career highlight.
The Penguin Suit: If you’ve ever seen a giant penguin waving at a crowd of cheering kids, there’s a non-zero chance that was me. I’ve proudly served as the mascot for the ST Math curriculum, doing my civic duty to make math education a little more legendary.
Why I Do It
I believe that supports should empower students to understand their strengths and advocate for themselves. Whether I’m hiking hut-to-hut through the Italian Dolomites or helping a student navigate a tough reading assignment, I’m all about the journey.

Liz Jones is a dedicated educator and special education professional with significant experience helping students bridge the gap between their potential and their performance. With a Master’s degree in Elementary and Special Education and extensive experience in the New York City and Boston school systems, Elizabeth specializes in supporting learners who navigate ADHD, executive function challenges, and diverse learning profiles.
The Coaching Approach: Beyond the Content
Liz believes that academic success is built on more than just subject knowledge; it requires a robust "mental toolkit." Her coaching focuses on the Five Pillars of Executive Function:
Organization & Planning: Developing personalized systems for managing physical and digital materials.
Task Initiation: Strategies to overcome "the hump" of starting complex assignments.
Time Management: Mastering the art of estimation, prioritization, and meeting deadlines without the stress.
Metacognition: Helping students understand how they learn best so they can advocate for their own needs.
Emotional Regulation: Building resilience and reducing the anxiety often associated with academic pressure.
Subject Matter Expertise
While she coaches the "how" of learning, Liz also provides expert instruction in the "what." Her background as a classroom teacher and evaluator allows her to provide high-level support in:
Literacy & Humanities: Advanced essay structure, critical reading, and evidence-based writing.
STEM Support: Utilizing scaffolded instruction to make complex math and science concepts accessible.
Standardized Test Prep & Study Skills: Transitioning from rote memorization to deep, durable learning.
A Partnership for Progress
Liz's philosophy is rooted in whole-person care. She views herself as a collaborative partner to both the student and the family. Her experience as a Special Education Case Manager means she is uniquely skilled at interpreting IEPs and 504 plans, ensuring that her private coaching aligns perfectly with a student’s formal educational goals.
Liz's goal is to empower every student to move from a place of "getting by" to a place of "thriving."
Liz provides executive function coaching and subject tutoring through Heller Psychology Group based in Bethesda, Maryland.
