About Lindsey

Hello, and welcome. My name is Lindsey Gallant, and I am delighted to be your teacher.
I am a qualified and experienced educator with over 20 years of teaching experience across South Africa and the United Arab Emirates. I hold a Diploma in Education and a TEFL Certificate, and I have completed extensive professional development in assessment, online teaching, differentiated learning, and curriculum design. I am also currently enrolled in the Microsoft Education Centre to enhance my technology skills.
I have taught Mathematics to students in Grades 4 through 8, and I have also instructed English, History, Geography, Afrikaans, Life Skills, Physical Education, and Health Education. This broad experience allows me to bring a holistic perspective to your learning. I understand that every student learns differently, and I tailor my teaching to meet your individual needs.
My professional achievements include elevating Mathematics results above average and significantly improving student performance outcomes. I have also served as Head of Department, mentored new teachers, and coordinated school programmes. These experiences have given me a deep understanding of how to help students succeed.
I am a native English speaker with strong communication skills. I am patient, approachable, and committed to your success. I believe that every student is capable of learning and achieving their goals. My role is to guide, support, and encourage you every step of the way.
In my lessons, you can expect a structured, engaging, and supportive environment. I use a variety of teaching methods, including hands-on activities, group discussions, and technology, to make learning interesting and effective. I provide clear explanations, constructive feedback, and individual attention to help you build confidence and master new skills.
I am committed to your progress and to creating a positive learning experience. I look forward to working with you and helping you reach your full potential.
Let us begin this journey together.

My teaching methodology is grounded in fostering a dynamic and inclusive learning environment that empowers students to become critical thinkers, compassionate individuals, and lifelong learners. I believe in cultivating a growth mindset, where mistakes are viewed as opportunities for growth and every student is encouraged to reach their full potential.

I focus on understanding rather than rote memorisation. Instead of emphasising formulas and algorithms, I prioritise exploring why mathematical concepts work and how they relate to real-world situations. I use a problem-based learning approach, presenting students with open-ended problems that require creative application of concepts.

I employ multiple representations to introduce concepts, including diagrams, graphs, physical models, and technology tools such as graphing calculators and interactive simulations. This helps students develop flexible understanding and think visually.

Differentiated instruction is central to my approach. I recognise the diversity of backgrounds, experiences, and learning styles among students, and I tailor my methods to meet the needs of each individual learner. I incorporate a variety of teaching methods, including hands-on activities, group discussions, and multimedia resources, to cater to diverse learning preferences and promote engagement and comprehension.

I encourage students to question assumptions, analyse patterns, and make connections between different mathematical ideas. This develops deeper understanding and fosters creativity in problem-solving. I also celebrate mistakes, creating a classroom culture where errors are seen as learning opportunities rather than something to be avoided.

What Makes Me Unique as a Teacher
Patience and Approachability: Patience is key when teaching mathematics. I am approachable and willing to help students who may be struggling. A positive and encouraging attitude makes a significant difference in a student's confidence and motivation.

Versatility: I have successfully instructed Mathematics across diverse grade levels, notably Grades 4-8, and have proficiency in instructing History, Geography, Afrikaans, and English. This broad subject knowledge allows me to bring a holistic perspective to student learning.

Proven Record: My achievements include elevating EMSA Mathematics results above ADEC average and significantly improving IRTIQA results from C-band to B-band. These accomplishments reflect my proficiency in developing and implementing effective assessment strategies to enhance student performance.

Technology Integration: I integrate digital platforms such as Zoom, Google Classroom, Desmos, and GeoGebra to enhance interactive learning and student engagement. I have also designed and taught lessons incorporating Artificial Intelligence, which were well-received by both students and observers.

Flipped Classroom Strategy: I often use the flipped classroom strategy to get students involved. Students prepare material in advance, and class time is used for discussion, problem-solving, and collaborative work.

Collaborative Approach: Collaboration is key in my approach. I encourage students to use all available resources, including technology and visual aids. I also provide constructive feedback that highlights both correct and incorrect approaches to problem-solving.

Scaffolded Learning: I provide support and guidance as students work through problems, gradually reducing the level of scaffolding as they become more confident and independent in their thinking.

Languages of Instruction
I am a native English speaker with a TEFL qualification. I am proficient in:

English (Native/Fluent) – Primary language of instruction.

Afrikaans – Proficient and able to teach at Grade 5 level.

What Students Can Expect from a Typical Lesson
Before the Lesson: If using a flipped classroom approach, students receive study materials, questions, or guides to complete before the session. This ensures class time is used for active learning.

During the Lesson:

A warm, welcoming, and supportive learning environment.

Clear expectations for behaviour, participation, and academic performance.

Engaging, interactive lessons that capture student interest and cater to diverse learning styles.

A variety of instructional strategies, including hands-on activities, group work, technology, and multimedia resources.

Regular opportunities for students to ask questions, challenge assumptions, and think critically.

Differentiated instruction that meets individual needs and abilities.

Positive reinforcement to recognise and reward desired behaviours, such as participation, cooperation, and effort.

Constructive feedback that highlights both correct and incorrect approaches to problem-solving.

After the Lesson: Students receive follow-up support through virtual office hours and one-on-one tutoring sessions to address any remaining challenges.

Target Students
Age Group: I specialise in teaching students aged 10 to 15 (Grades 4-8). I also have experience teaching students up to Grade 9.

Learning Levels:

Students who need foundational support to build confidence and understanding.

Students who want to improve their academic performance and results.

Students who are preparing for examinations or assessments.

Advanced students who seek enrichment and challenge.

Specificities:

Students who have had trouble with traditional teaching methods.

Students who benefit from differentiated instruction and individualised support.

Students who thrive in a supportive, encouraging environment.

English language learners (ESL/EFL students) who need English instruction alongside mathematics.

Students who prefer a flexible learning pace.

My Teaching Philosophy
My educational philosophy is grounded in the belief that education should empower individuals to make positive contributions to society, think critically about the world, and lead fulfilling lives. By fostering a love of learning, nurturing curiosity, and instilling a sense of responsibility, I aim to prepare students to navigate an ever-changing world with confidence and compassion. My philosophy is that everyone can do mathematics that allows them to understand and participate in our world.
