About Thomas
My name is Thomas and I have been teaching for 11 years now.
I have an MA in Art History from the University of York, with a specialism in Medievalism. My bachelors degree was in European Literature and Cultural Studies. I am currently engaged in preliminary research for an interdisciplinary PhD focusing on Medievalism in literature.
I have taught in a number of schools, across both primary and secondary, state and private sectors. Since 2012, I have taught at a leading girls' private school in the North of England.
My main expertise is in Art History and Philosophy, but I have a wide knowledge of a number of related academic disciplines, and have taught History to GCSE, and English and French up to KS3.
I have delivered the AQA Art History A Level legacy specification, the Pre-U (Cambridge) in Art History, as well as the current Pearson Edexcel A Level in History of Art. I have also taught the OCR (legacy) and current AQA Religious Studies A Level specifications.
I'm very keen to build on what I have done for almost a decade now, namely helping students through the exam system, but also inspiring a love and fascination for these incredible subjects, hopefully amongst a much wider group of people.

In short, I'm willing to help anyone, at any level, whatever the learning outcomes they are looking for. I have many resources and the ability to tailor content, materials, planning and outcomes to the needs of the individual, whatever subject they wish to focus on, at whatever level.
I have been a classroom teacher for a number of years but the current situation has encouraged me to go out and do more of the kind of teaching I love- specifically helping people (anyone), to discover more about the subjects which so fascinate me.
My approach to teaching and learning is to first help a student identify what it is that they might need, or want from the subject, and then to ensure that those needs are met, while exploring the subject as holistically as possible.
A key part of my students' exam successes, has been our interdisciplinary exploration of those subjects closely connected to Philosophy, Religious Studies or Art History, and by the end of two years of teaching, my students have almost always left with a genuine passion for either subject they have studied, aware of how it is interconnected to so many other aspects of their lives and the world around them.
It is my hope that I will be able to inspire yet more people to explore these fascinating subject areas.
