About Kate
I am a working artist, selling custom portraits online to people in all 50 states (and even abroad). I was an art instructor for about two years and really enjoyed teaching. I only left due to scheduling conflicts. I love sharing knowledge and have recently been wanting to get back into teaching (any subject to be honest).

Art is nothing more than a series of adjustments, slowly building your masterpiece brick by brick - giving the shapeless, form. I try to instill the importance of observation and seeing how individual pieces fit into a larger whole.
The most common mistake I see is people becoming fixated on one element and pouring hours of time into its perfection, only to stand back and see that it's in the wrong place, or perhaps, over exaggerated. Drawing/painting is the perfect medium between fluidity and discipline. It's more about the habits of the mind (whether obsessive or flighty) and how to train your mind to deliver you the product you're striving for. In this way, art can be meditative.
I strongly believe that as long as you have eyes and patience, you can draw (and even paint, since painting is basically drawing but with colors). I learned best by having fun and try to bring this theme into the classroom. I like to get to know my students and help them achieve their personal goals and vision for their work.
