About Sarah
Hello! My name is Sarah, and I am currently working towards a Bachelor's degree in English Language and Literature at the University of Oxford. Having always been an avid reader and devourer of books, I would hope to impart some of that enjoyment onto any person that I work with. Whilst always passionate about English, I struggled with concentration and organisation at school - it was through a lot of hard work on technique and focus that I was able to achieve the grades that I wanted. These techniques are now vital to my studies at Oxford, and would hopefully come in useful for those who perhaps struggle with aspects of English, and are looking for tailored one-on-one tutoring to help them achieve whatever it is that they are aiming for. Whether you need some extra help during the summer in preparation for exams next year, or you yourself are planning on applying for University and need some assistance with your personal statement, entrance exams, or the dreaded interview - I am here to help!

In the initial session, I would ask for a recent piece of work - an essay, essay plan, personal statement, or even a short story - to look over together. This will give me an idea of your working style, an insight into your thought process, and will help towards identifying any problem areas. After this first informal session, I would draw up personalised lesson plans centred around the areas of study that need developing, with clear short-term and long-term goals. In this way, I would aim to incorporate the structure, focus, and individual-based learning that is integral to the tutorials we receive at Oxford. I would also familiarise myself with any set texts you are studying, but also look at works that you yourself are interested in or passionate about - a favourite book, for example - as it is through engagement with texts we already enjoy that we are able to approach less familiar texts with the same curiosity. After the first few initial sessions, I will begin introducing mini-tests to ensure that information and techniques are being absorbed and put into action. Just as each person works and approaches English in a different way, each session will be unique to the tutee.
For those requiring assistance with Oxbridge or ELAT preparation, I would be happy to work closely with you on any aspect of the application process - whether that be UCAS, personal statement, or mock interviews. With the ELAT, we would look through past papers and talk through how you would approach the questions, and then begin to tackle essay plans that I would encourage you to expand into full essays - which I would be happy to look over and send back to you with ideas and constructive criticism.
