About Shania
I am currently a student at Lafayette College and I am majoring in Biology. Before attending Lafayette College, I graduated Magna cum laude from Summit High School. In high school I took 7 AP courses, including AP Biology. I also took a variety of math courses (ranging from Algebra to Calculus). I started tutoring students the summer after my senior year of high school and have tutored since then.

A lot of the concepts in Biology and math can be scary at first, however, I like to try and make learning them fun and relevant to students' lives. Through the use of visuals (videos, drawings, charts, etc.) and other interactive and engaging activities, I try to not only help students gain a better understanding of materials, but also make it fun.
A typical lesson plan would likely include:
1. An introduction to the topic (possibly through guided notes)
2. A supplemental video and/or activity
3. Practice (worksheets and games/activities)
4. An assessment of skills (with feedback)
What sets me apart as a tutor is that I personally am not the biggest fan of traditional lecture styles of learning. While that may work for some, it usually does not work for me, and my tutoring strategies reflect that. A lot of my plans involve engaging activities that allow students to continually practice concepts and hopefully have fun while doing it. At the same time, I have experience with adapting lesson plans and strategies to fit the individual student if I realize my initial plan is not compatible with the student I am working with. Finally, while academic success is super important to me, I also prioritize encouraging students to do their best and if they are still struggling, change my strategy until something helps (I like to make sure that my students know that they are capable of learning anything no matter how hard it is at first).
My lessons are mostly for elementary to middle school age students (or anyone looking for a strong foundation in biology or math).
