About Sarah
English Teaching /Training:
Summer course director for children’s courses.
EFL/EAL/ESOL teaching and teacher trainer preparing students for Cambridge and IELTS exams and Cambridge Oral Examining, syllabus design, setting up and directing a six week 120 hour TESOL Teacher Training Course. Fourteen years employment at University College Cork, Ireland and in private colleges in Cork teaching adults and preparing students for Cambridge exams up to proficiency level.
Teaching English on children’s summer courses for private schools.
One year teaching children and adult lessons in Northern Spain.
Teaching English to all ages for EF and Anglo World in Bournemouth for four years.
In 2001 I taught English and Spanish which included preparing foreign language teachers from Rydal Penrhos College, Colwyn Bay for the Cambridge Proficiency Exam. I also taught two Spanish post graduates English whilst they lived in my home. My main occupation for the last twelve years before returning to University College Cork to work in April to November, 2012 was running my two companies. My students ranged from age 14 years to adult.
I was held totally responsible for these students in all areas of education, entertainment, food and accommodation, pastoral care and tourist trips which included Dublin, London, Liverpool and Manchester, the mountains, lakes and seaside of Wales.
I taught students from intermediate to Doctorate levels on home tuition courses sent to me from Churchill School of English in Kent as well as for my own company. Please see references.
Employment History:
• Live in care work for the elderly from January 2015 (2-3 week placements living in). My main positions:- 14 months was with an 88 year old gentleman who suffered from dementia. (see Judith Bunkham ref)
• 12 months with Hilary and Peter B…… where I lived in on 2-3 week placements taking care of Mrs.B (Ref on request) My job involved sole care of Hilary’s personal care, cooking for both adults and managing the housekeeping, shopping, cooking, making beverages for business guests during meetings, cleaning and laundry as well as hospital visits and driving.
• I have also worked with five other elderly people also living in on various placements throughout the year.
• Running my own swim school which now employs teachers.

• 1991-1999 English Language Teacher and Cambridge Examiner at University College Cork. Taught ESOL/EFL/EAP/ESP to adults from intermediate to proficiency level, prepared students for Cambridge, CEELT, IELTS and CELTA.
• Taught Welsh as example lesson on Cambridge CELTA and DELTA Teacher Training Courses followed by feedback sessions.
• 1993-1998 South of Ireland Language Centre. English Teacher and Teacher Trainer. Taught English on a 1:1 basis to a Russian 9 year old and his Mother. I was given total responsibility for managing their education and free time activities.

Dynamic, experienced, student centred, enthusiastic, energetic Dip TESOL qualified graduate available for all levels of English lessons for any age. Over 30 years experience, 12 years teaching at The Language Centre at University College Cork in Ireland preparing students for Cambridge exams and IELTS. I have also prepared students for TOEIC and Trinity exams. I speak Spanish and some French and have lived overseas in many countries. I thoroughly enjoy teaching English and meeting new people. I have child care /education and elderly care qualifications as well as a DRB (Police check and a first aid certificate) Teaching can be in person or on Skype. I look forward to hearing from you and helping you improve your English. I have standard British English accent and have been a Cambridge oral examiner and assessor.
My students have been children on summer courses, residential teenagers and adults on my home tuition courses and under graduates, post graduates and clients with doctorates who want to improve their general or specific English requirements.
I use the balanced activity approach covering the main language skills, reading, writing, speaking and listening unless a student has a specific need to cover a certain aspect of the English Language. I have plenty of teaching materials and a MacBook. My initial aim is always to find out what your aim is and develop a syllabus which will help you to achieve your aims in an interesting and motivating way. I believe it is of the utmost importance to gain a rapport with my student and prepare interesting lessons which make learning enjoyable and fun. I have excellent references from the University College Cork and can supply proof of qualifications.
