About Cathy
My teaching style is relaxed but focused. Typically, the lesson would begin with a focus on the most relevant work and the skills that the student is seeking to improve. We might read a short story and do a few comprehension questions. That could be followed by working on identifying grammatical errors, doing some practice writing and possibly ending with a fun exercise, i.e. a Word Search or Word Jumble. I would give a small amount of review/practice work for the student to do before the next tutoring session, and finally briefly discuss the student's progress with the parents.

My approach is to have a positive teaching relationship with the student. Upon first meeting them, I like to get to know a little bit about their life, i.e, pets, hobbies, sports they like, what games or shows they watch, etc. and I will share a few details about myself in the same way. I am very supportive while they are learning and give lots of encouragement to instill confidence that they can achieve their goals in school. I am very patient if they are having difficulty with a concept. I want them to know that I truly care about their progress!
