About Sema
I am a second year English student at university, I have been tutoring with Explore Learning for three years now, and have been privately tutoring for a year and a half. My areas of expertise are English and 11+ as well as Geography. I have taught one intake of six for 11+ and all six children went onto Grammar Schools in Rugby. My most recent GCSE English student passed with an A and my current student is predicted a level 8.

Having taught groups of children as well as on a one-to-one basis, I know that teaching is based around completely tailoring the teaching method around the student. Each child learns completely differently and for them to truly benefit- and most importantly- improve, I need to understand what works for them. I work on a retention-based learning style in which a concept is taught using visual aids and notes. My student would then be asked to apply the concept in a practical assessment and marked. Collaborative marking would be implemented so that they understand what they could improve on, as well as what they did really well. Finally, we will revisit the concept itself several times as a 'revision top-up' so that it becomes second nature to them.
