About Richard
After volunteering at a local community college, I decided that being an ESL teacher would be a great career for me.
I completed a Master's Degree in Applied Linguistics at the University of Oregon specializing in language teaching with a capstone final project in academic English vocabulary acquisition. After graduating I taught in Indonesia and Japan before returning to the states to teach at the community college I first volunteered at. I have taught all levels and abilities both in person classes, online classes, as well as one on one tutoring. I always orient my lessons towards the needs of the student.

I use a communicative approach so that you will use the English you already know to improve your English abilities regardless of your present level.
My lessons are oriented towards the needs of the student whether for general conversation, pronunciation, or academic English.
My lessons are active rather than a lecture style, but I am very good at explaining the more complicated and confusing aspects of English grammar.
