About Ash
I am an adjunct instructor who has taught sixteen sections of freshman writing composition and six sections of the premodern British literature survey. My ethos as an instructor is inspired by the composition program I teach for: reading and writing aren't divinely bestowed gifts you either are or are not born with but skills developed through practice and incremental progress.

My methods are inspired by my experience having taught hundreds of students at the freshmen composition college level.
For beginner writing composition my first concern is establishing a student's experience with the particular assignment they've been given and locating any gaps in understanding what their instructor is asking them to do; understanding both of these pieces are crucial as it allows the student to contextualize how each item, no matter how small, fulfills the course requirements and helps them reach the larger goal.
My process afterwards is feedback-based. While I won't write an assignment for anyone, I next want to see the student's writing draft to offer comments that critique as well as build confidence and pair verbal one-on-one explanations with prewritten remarks intended to help them become a better writer as well as meet the assignment goal.
