About Tharuna
Hiya! I’m an English graduate with a triple-major Bachelor’s degree in English, Psychology and Communication/Media, as well as a Master’s degree in Mental Health: Psychological Therapies from Queen Mary University of London.
I have worked with students across various age groups, helping them develop their pronunciation, speaking, reading, grammar and vocabulary. I have also worked with students with Special Educational Needs (SEN), including ADHD and dyslexia, and use patient, engaging and adaptable teaching methods to support different learning needs.
Beyond English, I speak Hindi and Kannada fluently and have intermediate proficiency in Tamil, Marathi and Japanese. I love how learning languages opens up new ways of communicating and connecting with people, and I’m always happy to bring that perspective into my lessons.
My academic background has given me strong experience in literature, language, essay writing, academic writing and research. During my Master’s degree, I completed a systematic review dissertation and gained formal training in qualitative and quantitative research methods, primary data collection, statistical analysis and academic writing.
What I particularly love about tutoring is seeing a student’s confidence grow - whether that means speaking more comfortably, expressing their ideas more clearly in writing, understanding a difficult piece of literature, or simply discovering a love for reading.
Outside of teaching, I’m an avid reader and love traveling, trying new food, spending time with dogs and crocheting.

Hiya!
My approach to tutoring is personalized, supportive and focused on building both confidence and practical skills. I adapt each lesson to the student’s level, learning style and individual goals, whether they are looking to strengthen their grammar, improve their writing, understand literature or develop their public-speaking skills.
I use a combination of explanation, guided practice, discussion, exercises and constructive feedback. For literature, I encourage students to engage critically with texts by exploring themes, characters, context and different interpretations. For essay and academic writing, I focus on developing clear arguments, structure, evidence, critical thinking and effective expression. I can also provide dissertation support, including guidance on structure, academic writing, research and presenting ideas clearly.
Lessons are typically 60 minutes, although I am happy to adapt the length depending on the student’s age, level and requirements.
I hold a Bachelor’s degree in English, Psychology and Communication/Media and a Master’s degree in Mental Health: Psychological Therapies from Queen Mary University of London. I have previous experience tutoring English to children, teaching reading, speaking, grammar and vocabulary through games, role-play, visual aids and structured activities. I also have experience supporting students with Special Educational Needs (SEN), including ADHD and dyslexia, and aim to create a patient, encouraging and accessible learning environment.
I offer lessons to Primary, Secondary, GCSE/O-Level, A-Level/IB-equivalent and Undergraduate students.
