About Tom
I have taught chemistry to thousands of students, aged 11 to 18 since 2010. Many students scored one or two grades above their target in GCSEs and A-levels. I also write widely for various chemistry publications about intriguing scientific contexts.

I graduated from the University of Sheffield with Tom when we studied chemistry back in the day. We bonded (pun absolutely intended) over our passion for the subject, so although he has never tutored me directly, I can vouch for his infectious enthusiasm for chemistry. Like the alchemists of olden times, he turns the lead of diligent study into the gold of exam success.
I have known Tom for several years, while he has built up his tutoring business. Over the years I have often heard him read out reviews from students, chuffed to bits that he helped them get A or A* grades. As an educator myself, I can see how engaging his chemistry lessons must be. His knowledge of the subject is seriously impressive, but even more important are the strong foundation of pedagogical techniques used to support learning. I would recommend him without hesitation.
I’ve known Tom for more than 20 years. He’s been tutoring for his main living since 2018 and although I’ve never had any lessons with him, I can tell he’s a great tutor because he has so much passion for his subject. Now and then I ask him to explain something scientific to me, such as the chemistry of pottery glazes, and I find his explanations clear and useful. I know he’s had loads of five-star reviews on different platforms and I’m sure it won’t be long before he has loads of them on Superprof too.
From a D at mocks to an A at Chemistry A level in just four months! I contacted Tom in February the A Level year since my son had just scored a D in his mocks which caused him to spiral into despair. Tom quite literally turned him around. He gave him the confidence to think about what the answer could be. His teaching is humorous and engaging and my son started to enjoy chemistry again. He's also very straight about certain things that need to be learned by rote but once this was achieved, the rest dropped into place. My son owes his Russell Group University place to Tom and all this despite him attending a leading fee paying school. I would not hesitate to invest in one to one tutor time with Tom
