About Lorenzo

I began tutoring in 2018, shortly after leaving school, and have continued teaching throughout my university studies. What began as a way to fund my studies quickly developed into a genuine passion for education. I particularly enjoy building relationships with students and finding ways to make difficult concepts accessible, engaging and rewarding to explore.

I grew up in the UK and attended the European School Culham, where I studied English and Italian at first-language level. I subsequently completed a Double Degree in Liberal Arts and Sciences at University College Freiburg and University College Maastricht. My interdisciplinary education, encompassing literature, philosophy, history, politics and economics, has given me a broad intellectual foundation and extensive experience in academic reading, analysis and writing.

Alongside private tutoring, I have worked as an English teacher at the Carl-Schurz-Haus, a German-American cultural institute in Freiburg, and as an undergraduate teaching assistant at the University of Freiburg. These roles have allowed me to work with students of widely varying ages, abilities and educational backgrounds, while developing my skills in lesson planning, communication and individualised support.

I have guided several British pupils through successive stages of their education, from primary school through to GCSE, sometimes working with the same student for years. Seeing their confidence, independence and abilities develop over time has been one of the most rewarding aspects of my work.

My teaching has consistently received excellent feedback from students and parents. Above all, I aim to create an encouraging environment in which students feel comfortable asking questions, expressing their ideas and developing a genuine appreciation for what they are studying.

About the lesson

My approach to tutoring is built around the needs, interests and learning style of each student. Whether the goal is to improve reading comprehension, develop creative writing skills, strengthen literary analysis or prepare for GCSE examinations, I tailor my lessons to the student's abilities and objectives.

I place particular emphasis on discussion and active participation. When studying literature, I encourage students to develop their own interpretations, helping them engage with difficult texts and understand how language, structure and literary techniques create meaning. Rather than simply teaching students to reproduce model answers, I aim to develop their analytical intuition and confidence in expressing and defending their ideas.

For written work, I provide targeted guidance on argumentation, essay structure, clarity of expression, vocabulary and grammar. Exercises and feedback are adapted to the student's progress, with a balance between addressing immediate difficulties and developing lasting skills.

I have tutored students through KS2, KS3 and GCSE, including supporting pupils over several years as they progress through school. At university, I supported several peers with their writing both formally and informally. Lessons are typically 60 minutes, although their length and structure can be adapted to individual needs.
