About Dr James
Dr James Hawkins BA, PGDip. MSc, PhD
University lecturer in Politics, International Relations, Political economy and Social Sciences.
With over 25 years of experience in education, I bring academic depth and a supportive approach to every lesson. As a Doctor of Politics and Philosophy and a lecturer at Ruskin College, Oxford, I’ve taught students from GCSE through to postgraduate level. Whether you’re aiming to improve grades, prepare for university, or deepen your understanding of the humanities, I offer structured guidance in a calm, encouraging environment — always tailored to your individual goals.
My Teaching Approach
I’m a dedicated, friendly, and reliable tutor who genuinely cares about helping students reach their potential. My teaching is structured but flexible — shaped around each student’s individual goals, challenges, and learning style.
To make learning clear and achievable, I offer four levels of support depending on where you're starting from and what you're working toward. Whether you’re building confidence, aiming for top grades, or preparing for university, I’ll support you every step of the way with tailored lessons, honest feedback, and a calm, encouraging environment.

James was the course lead for a Politics and International Relations degree I did at Ruskin college. I could not have asked for a better educator.
