About Amanda
Currently I have my Master’s in Elementary Education and am a tutor at Moharimet Elementary School. I was recently hired by Great Minds for the summer to teach professional development for Eureka math programs across the United States. Over the years I have had trainings in various programs, helped unpack standards, rewrite and develop curriculum, and created manipulatives for a more hands-on approach to teaching and learning.

I believe in an inclusionary classroom with an open-door policy. Through the years of working within different districts and with many colleagues, I have enhanced by flexibilityand broadened my understanding of my teaching philosophy. I have seen Open Learning and Open Circle used within classrooms. I think an important part for both programs is using common language across a district and within a school. There needs to be a balance of Social Emotional Learning with Academics. I have a strong belief in an open-door policy with the students, parents, and colleagues. Weekly I will update mynewsletter to detail what we have focused on in the classroom for parents, exciting upcoming events, and share some common language we are using in the school. I will encourage parents to reach out if they have any questions or concerns, want more understanding on how to help their students academically, and to feel We need to focus less on students as ‘mine’ and more on them as ‘ours’. As teachers, administrators and support staff, we need to find a way to make connections with students, so they feel comfortable to be learners that make mistakes, take chances and can approach us with issues or concerns.
