Dear prospective students, Hello! If you have ever been captivated by the elegant lines of calligraphy or are curious about the depth of traditional Chinese culture, then this course is designed for you. Whether you are a beginner with zero foundation or a calligraphy enthusiast who has mastered certain techniques, I welcome you to join this journey to explore the art of calligraphy. I teach this course not only because calligraphy is a skill, but also because it is a carrier of culture, a training of thinking, and a spiritual practice. In this fast-paced era, calligraphy allows us to slow down, to feel the force and rhythm of each brush stroke, to appreciate the change and beauty of the shade of ink. By studying calligraphy, you will not only master a traditional art, but also develop concentration, aesthetic skills and critical thinking. In this course, you will learn how to hold and move a pen, how to understand the characteristics of different styles of writing, and how to express your feelings and thoughts through ink and ink. More importantly, you will learn to interpret classical works with a critical eye, think about the cultural significance behind calligraphy, and try to integrate innovation into traditions to find your own artistic language. I teach this course because I am convinced that calligraphy is not just an art of the past, it can also speak to modern life. Dear Recruitment team, I am a teacher who is committed to integrating critical thinking into calligraphy teaching, with rich teaching experience and profound calligraphy skills. My course design not only focuses on the teaching of techniques, but also emphasises the cultivation of students' cultural understanding, independent thinking ability and innovative consciousness through calligraphy. In the course design, I divided calligraphy teaching into three stages: basic techniques, classic interpretation and innovative practice. The course starts from the basic skills of holding the pen, handling the pen and structure, and gradually guides the students to master the characteristics of Seal style, Li style, Kai style, line and Cao style. On this basis, I will guide students to think about the historical background, cultural connotation and artists' personal style behind calligraphy through in-depth analysis of classic works (such as Lanting Preface and the Manuscript of the Nephew). Finally, I encourage students to incorporate critical thinking into their creations, try to incorporate modern elements into traditional calligraphy, and express their personal feelings and the spirit of The Times. My teaching methods focus on interaction and inspiration. For example, when explaining the structure of calligraphy, I will guide students to analyse the aesthetic logic of different calligraphy styles. When copying a classic, I ask the question, "Why is this painting called a classic?" What makes it unique?" Through discussion and practice, students can not only improve their skills, but also develop independent thinking and artistic appreciation. Courses are flexible in length and can be designed as short workshops (4-8 weeks) or long courses (3-6 months) depending on student needs. Each class is usually 1.5 to 2 hours long and includes explanations, demonstrations, exercises and comments. With a background in calligraphy and over five years of teaching experience, I have mentored students of all ages and levels, including children, teenagers and adults. My courses are for everyone who loves calligraphy, whether beginners with zero foundation or advanced learners who want to improve their technique and explore innovation. For children, I will stimulate their interest through fun activities; For adults, I would pay more attention to cultural depth and personal expression. I believe that calligraphy is not only the inheritance of skills, but also the dialogue of cultures and the collision of thinking. I look forward to bringing this critical thinking teaching philosophy to your institution and exploring with students the infinite possibilities of tradition and innovation in the world of calligraphy.
