About Aubriana
My name is Aubriana! I am an Education major at Grand Valley State University, specializing in English. I’m eager to help K-6 students improve their English skills. I enjoy reading and writing free-verse poetry and have experience as a Sunday School teacher and CTE teacher's assistant in high school. These roles have strengthened my ability to work with children and foster a positive, engaging learning environment. I’m friendly, approachable, and bring a lighthearted, patient approach to teaching. I’m excited to help your child grow and succeed in their English skills!

A typical session would always be fun and supportive. Starting with a warmup, getting to know the specific area of concern and going from there. First we would review vocabulary by creating a fun short story using the vocabulary words. This repetition helps lock the words in the brain as well as helps the student with pronunciation. After the story has been created, I would read the story, saying what each vocabulary word meant when it came up. After the first read through, I would ask the student what the word meant and give encouragement and hints if the student could not recall the word. After a few read throughs I would as the student to take a turn with reading, being patient and giving encouragement. After getting through the story, I would reward the student with a sticker, as well as when they have gotten all of the vocabulary words down. At the end of the day, the student would be able to pick a prize from what I brought with me that day, being stickers, coloring pages, things of that nature. The lesson would end with a review of the material, writing sentences with the vocabulary to really make sure that it stays in their memory, and with the prize that I previously mentioned, as well as setting goals for the next lesson. This reward system and offer of help when needed gives the student the motivation and confidence to learn and grow!
