About Doris
I am an eager violin tutor with 2 years of experience teaching learners of all levels. In this time, I have successfully mentored around 150 students, helping them build a solid base in violin technique and musical understanding. My teaching philosophy is centered on integrity, understanding, cultural sensitivity, and problem-solving, ensuring that every learner gets honest feedback and personalized support throughout their learning path. I believe in being transparent about a learner's progress, highlighting both strengths and areas for improvement, so they always have a clear picture of where they stand. I take time to grasp each learner's individual pace and challenges, whether they struggle with bow control, finger placement, or pitch accuracy, and adjust my teaching methods accordingly. I also value cultural sensitivity, bringing in musical styles and pieces that resonate with each learner's background and interests, making sessions more meaningful and engaging. When learners meet difficulties, I focus on practical problem-solving, breaking down challenges into manageable steps until they feel confident. My sessions cover posture, bow technique, finger positioning, and music theory basics, gradually progressing to more advanced skills. My aim is to create an honest, supportive, and encouraging space where every learner feels motivated to grow as a violinist.

My teaching method for Violin, Music Theory, and Beginner Technique centers on creating a strong and honest base for learners who are just starting their musical path. As someone early in my tutoring career, I bring energy, dedication, and a genuine commitment to helping each learner progress at a pace that works for them.
Integrity shapes how I teach every session. I give truthful feedback about a learner's playing, pointing out both strengths and areas that need work, so they get a real sense of their progress rather than empty praise. This builds trust and helps learners improve faster.
Understanding is central to how I connect with learners. Learning violin can feel challenging at first, especially with bow control and finger placement. I take time to grasp each learner's comfort level and frustrations, adjusting my pace and explanations so they never feel rushed or overwhelmed.
Cultural sensitivity plays a role in how I approach teaching, as music often carries different meanings and styles across backgrounds. I stay open to bringing in pieces or styles that resonate with each learner's interests and cultural background, making sessions more personal and engaging.
Problem-solving is something I focus on when learners meet specific difficulties, whether holding the bow correctly, matching pitch, or reading notes. I break challenges into smaller steps and work through workable solutions with each learner until they feel confident.
My sessions begin with proper posture, bow hold, and basic finger positioning, followed by simple scales and easy melodies to build muscle memory. I introduce music theory basics early, including note reading and rhythm, to support their playing skills.
As learners grow more comfortable, I gradually add more challenging pieces and begin ear training to build their sense of pitch. I customize each session to match learner goals, whether they learn for fun or build a base for future advanced study. My aim is to create an honest, understanding, and supportive space for every beginner violinist.
