About Chris
My 8 years as a guitar teacher have taught me that consistent encouragement, combined with practical strategy, leads to meaningful progress. I’ve worked closely with school and college-aged students who come with varying levels of experience and a wide range of musical goals. Some want to jam with friends, others dream of writing and recording their own songs. Regardless of the goal, my job is to help them see what's possible. We begin with the essentials—developing comfort with the instrument, understanding rhythm, building finger strength, and learning how to practice efficiently. As students grow, I introduce theory in ways that directly support their playing, helping them make musical choices that feel intentional and expressive. Creativity is never treated as a separate skill; it’s something we nurture from the start. Whether through a small riff they come up with or a full composition, I encourage original thinking and exploration. One of my most memorable students built their confidence by participating in weekly community jam sessions, something they were too nervous to try when we first met. I aim to build not just skill, but belief in one’s ability to grow, create, and share music with others. My lessons are a space for learning, discovery, and fun, where students leave feeling inspired and capable.

My guitar teaching method is built on the belief that music is a conversation—between the player and the instrument, between the student and the song, and between the heart and the hands. I teach you to listen deeply, play thoughtfully, and express authentically from day one. Every student’s musical path is different, so my first step is always listening: to your goals, your past experiences, your musical taste, and how you learn best.
From there, I develop a customized learning plan that combines structured progress with creative flexibility. We build strong fundamentals—clear fretting, clean strumming, confident rhythm—but we apply them directly to the kinds of music you’re passionate about. Instead of generic drills, we use real songs and live musical examples to teach technique in context. I help you understand the language of the guitar—how chords flow, how melody sits over harmony, how rhythm creates movement.
Depending on your learning style, we might use color-coded charts, ear-training loops, call-and-response improvisation, or songwriting sketches. I’m a big believer in the power of guided experimentation. I give you the tools to explore on your own, while always being available to clarify, correct, or collaborate when needed. I also teach you how to teach yourself—to practice with purpose, identify weak points, and track progress in a way that feels motivating instead of overwhelming.
We’ll discuss mindset and creative blocks too, because musical growth is as much psychological as it is technical. My feedback is direct but encouraging, focused on helping you hear and feel your progress. We don’t chase perfection—we aim for expression, improvement, and musical fluency. I also incorporate lessons in related areas: stage confidence, songwriting structure, ear training, gear setup, and creative collaboration. Whether you want to perform live, compose your own work, or just play for your own joy, I’ll support your growth every step of the way.
