About Amy
I am a finishing Master's student at Durham University who has worked with children and young people for all of my adult life (and a little before that too!). My particular expertise is in Religious Studies (that's my degree area), while as a tutor I've worked with English and RE GCSE and A Level pupils, including helping one GCSE English Language pupil achieve a 4 (and nearly a a 5!) on his 4th retake. I attribute essay writing skills gained during my own A Levels to my success at university (where I am on track for a First), and would be very happy to help with general essay writing skills applicable to any essay subject. I prepare specifically for every lesson to tailor well to the student's curriculum and specific needs. For example, with a GCSE English pupil, we will practice analysing texts to maximise marks, as well as creative, non-fiction and essay writing skills.
I've now been tutoring for two years, developing lots of resources and strategies for building the necessary skills to excel in English and RE, working with multiple exam boards and ability levels. I'm passionate about seeing students achieve the very best they're able to achieve.
I'm very happy to discuss the best way to go about online lessons at the moment - my preference is Zoom, using its screen sharing and shared whiteboard functions, but I am also utilising shared google folders and can be flexible with what works best for you.

Each student is unique and so lessons must be unique. With English pupils, we'll focus on analytical and writing skills, building towards GCSE and A-Level. In-depth textual work also allows for key vocabulary building. Essay writing especially is a difficult skill, and I typically put time into helping students put their thoughts into well-argued and structured pieces of writing which can carry them beyond school into university and the workplace.
