About Jay France

- What kind of experience do you have? Embarking on a lifelong journey in the music industry, I've had the privilege of not only being the guitarist for the UK's biggest ska and reggae band, The Dualers, but also contributing my skills to numerous professional function bands. With over a decade of experience, I've had the opportunity to tour the UK and Europe, gracing some of the most iconic venues, major festivals, and world tours. My passion extends beyond performance to songwriting, where I've crafted over a thousand songs spanning various genres. This wealth of experience has uniquely shaped my approach to teaching music. Beginning as a volunteer in a local music school, I transitioned into a music teaching role, working with students of diverse needs and abilities in both group and one-on-one settings. Venturing into the educational realm, I joined a performing arts secondary school in South East London. Here, I learned the art of keeping lessons engaging, enjoyable, and educational, all while maintaining a professional atmosphere. My teaching philosophy centres on making the student and their learning the focal point of each lesson. Armed with a Certificate in the Lifelong Sector (PTTLS) from Greenwich Community College and Access to Music, I blend practical experience with theoretical knowledge. Moreover, holding a full up-to-date DBS certificate ensures a secure learning environment. As a proud member of PRS Songwriting, I stay connected to the ever-evolving landscape of music creation. My client base, which includes students of all ages and skill levels, attests to the success of my teaching philosophy. For testimonials and a deeper insight into my teaching approach, please refer to this video: Video Link. Should you have any further inquiries or wish to explore potential collaborations, feel free to reach out. I'm here to nurture a love for music in every student, just as I've done throughout my diverse musical career.

I like to tailor-make lessons for each individual student. I actively encourage students to pick songs they enjoy to learn as opposed to imposing songs selected by me. All my students have the option to learn to read music but we can also structure lessons around ear training. A mixture of both reading and ear training may also be selected and is highly recommended. All my students spend circa 80% of their lesson playing on the instrument. I would like to add that practice is an essential part of learning to play, this would be your choice, but I encourage my students to practise regularly, as the best results can be achieved by those that do.
