About Samantha

You're in good hands. I’m a biomedical engineer with 2.5 years of experience teaching a college-level circuits course, where I worked with nearly 300 students from all kinds of academic backgrounds. I was consistently scored above university-wide and college-wide averages in teaching evaluations. I’ve also taught high school students in a summer program, so I know how to adapt material for different levels—whether you’re just starting out or looking for a challenge. My style is patient, straightforward, and focused on making sure things click. I break down complex topics into manageable steps, walk through real examples, and help you build confidence along the way. I’m always prepared and responsive, and I’ll meet you where you’re at—whether you’re trying to catch up or get ahead. Most importantly, I care about more than just getting through the next assignment. I want to help you build the skills and confidence to keep succeeding even after our sessions end.

My approach as a tutor is rooted in empathy and adaptability. It is my belief that effective teaching is less about lecturing and more about helping students build their own toolbox for future problem solving and the confidence to use it. I always aim to create a low-pressure, supportive space where students feel comfortable asking questions—even the ones they might think are silly.

I like to start by breaking the bigger, more complex concepts into digestible pieces. From there, I guide students through real examples and practice problems to help guide their understanding. I don’t just tell them the what—I focus on the why and the how. I ask a lot of questions and encourage students to talk me through their thought process, which helps identify where things are clicking and where we might need to revisit.

A typical lesson plan for me involves:

- A quick check-in (how they're feeling, any immediate questions)

- A recap of the previous session

- A deep dive into the topic of the day, which could involve walking through diagrams or solving problems together

- Independent problem-solving or short quiz-style review

- A wrap-up, reflection on progress, and setting goals or prep for the next session

I also like to assign light practice questions between sessions to keep things fresh and reinforce learning.

What sets me apart is that I bring a unique mix of technical expertise and teaching experience. I have 2.5 years of college-level instruction for a circuits class under my belt. Over that time, I interacted directly with nearly 300 students, so I’m comfortable tailoring material for a range of learning styles. I have also worked as a TA at my high school's summer school. And finally, I’ve been in the student’s shoes—not that long ago—so I remember what helped me and what didn’t.

My sessions are always personalized and flexible; I take the time to figure out what actually works for each student rather than applying a one-size-fits-all approach.

My lessons will be for any high school student or college student interested in STEM, but can be of assistance especially in the realm of math, biology, or engineering principles.
