About Wesley
Twenty-two years of teaching have shaped my perspective on the piano as an extension of the human voice. You will find that my home studio in San Francisco serves as a sanctuary for musicians from 6 years old through adulthood who seek genuine artistic growth. Instruction blends the rigorous structure of my DMA from the Yale School of Music with careful attention to the architecture of sound.
Mastering dynamics and expression requires a delicate balance of physical ease and mental clarity. I prioritize precise posture and hand position alongside the nuances of pedaling technique. My work covers classical repertoire, sight transposition, jazz improvisation, and grade exam prep for ABRSM or Trinity boards.

Since the ear precedes the fingers, silence and listening form the primary bedrock of our time together. Diagnostic playing assessment before we set a learning plan allows me to calibrate the initial direction of your technical foundation.
Precision in sight playing emerges only when the mind anticipates the sound before the key is depressed. Inner hearing remains the focus as we examine rhythm and the harmonic landscape.
Technical drills are never mindless, as each exercise serves a specific musical end. You discover how to weigh the arm and distribute tension across the frame.
Gentle but exacting feedback keeps our trajectory sharp. Correcting subtle shifts in your engagement often changes the entire resonance of a piece. True progress is quiet, steady, and measured by the depth of your awareness.
