  • 1) When did you develop an interest in your chosen field and in private tutoring?

My interest in medicine sparked during my high school years, where I found myself deeply captivated by the intricate workings of the human body and the potential to make a tangible difference in people's lives. As for private tutoring, it emerged as a natural extension of my passion for sharing knowledge and helping others succeed academically. Witnessing the "aha" moments in students as they grasp complex concepts is immensely fulfilling.
  • 2) Tell us more about the subject you teach, the topics you like to discuss with students (and possibly those you like a little less).

Medicine is a vast field encompassing various disciplines, from anatomy and physiology to pharmacology and pathology. I particularly enjoy delving into topics like OSCE training, clinical reasoning, differential diagnosis, and evidence-based medicine with my students. These areas foster critical thinking and problem-solving skills, which are essential for aspiring medical professionals.
  • 3) Did you have any role models; a teacher that inspired you?

One of my most influential role models is a professor from my medical school days who possessed an unparalleled passion for teaching. Her dedication to fostering a deep understanding of the subject matter, coupled with her support for teaching students inspired me to develop my career further in medical education. I would love to teach others as well as she did myself.
  • 4) What do you think are the qualities required to be a good tutor?

The qualities that define a good tutor in medicine, in my opinion, include expertise in the subject matter, effective communication skills, patience, adaptability, and a genuine passion for teaching. Being able to break down complex concepts into digestible chunks, tailor teaching methods to suit individual learning styles, and providing ongoing support and encouragement are crucial for nurturing students' growth and confidence.
  • 5) Provide a valuable anecdote related to your subject or your days at school.

One memorable story from my days at medical school involves a particularly challenging anatomy exam. Despite hours of studying, I struggled with identifying certain structures on cadavers. However, through the guidance of a dedicated tutor who patiently walked me through each dissection and provided invaluable mnemonic devices, I eventually mastered the material and passed the exam.
  • 6) What were the difficulties or challenges you faced or still facing in your subject?

One of the ongoing challenges in medicine is keeping pace with advancements and new research findings. The field is constantly evolving, requiring practitioners to stay updated on the latest developments and integrate them into their practice. Additionally, the sheer volume of information can be overwhelming for students, making it essential to prioritise key concepts and develop effective study strategies.
  • 7) Do you have a particular passion? Is it teaching in general or an element of the subject or something completely different?

My passion lies in both teaching and the pursuit of medical knowledge. I find immense fulfilment in empowering students to reach their academic goals and instilling in them a lifelong love for learning. Moreover, the opportunity to contribute to the next generation of healthcare professionals and positively impact patient care fuels my dedication to both teaching and practicing medicine.
  • 8) What makes you a Superprof (besides answering these interview questions :-P) ?

As a Superprof, I strive to provide a personalised learning experience tailored to each student's unique needs and learning style. My expertise as a junior doctor, coupled with my passion for teaching, enables me to impart not only factual knowledge but also real-world insights and practical skills essential for success in the field of medicine. Moreover, my commitment to ongoing professional development ensures that I stay on top of the latest advancements and best practices, thereby offering students the highest quality education possible.
