About TR
I am a 2014 graduate of the Milwaukee Institute of Art & Design, completing my BFA in Integrated Studio Arts with a minor in drawing, and from 2015 - 2022 I worked as an admission counselor at Parsons School of Design, the number one design school in the U.S. and among the top three globally. Outside of my work in higher education, I have also worked as a freelance graphic designer. I've provided design services on a project-by-project basis for notable clients including CFDA award-winning fashion designer Raul Lopez of Luar, Los Angeles-based record label and event series Fade to Mind, and the NYC-based independent queer publishing platform GenderFail.

As an art school graduate of the Milwaukee Institute of Art & Design with extensive experience in design school admissions at Parsons School of Design, my teaching method revolves around fostering creativity, individuality, and technical proficiency in prospective art students. I firmly believe in a personalized approach, tailoring my guidance to each student's unique strengths, interests, and areas of improvement. In the initial sessions, I conduct thorough one-on-one consultations with students to understand their aspirations, artistic background, and career goals. This allows me to create a customized learning plan that addresses their specific needs and challenges.
A typical lesson plan consists of both theoretical and practical components. Theoretical aspects involve discussions on art history, contemporary art trends, and the importance of conceptual thinking in creating meaningful artwork. Practical sessions focus on honing technical skills, such as drawing, painting, digital art, and various other media relevant to the student's interests. Throughout the course, I encourage students to engage in self-reflection, and critique while fostering a supportive and collaborative learning environment.
What sets me apart as a tutor is my firsthand experience in the art school admissions process. Having successfully navigated this challenging path myself, I can offer valuable insights and tips to help students build portfolios that stand out to admissions committees. I provide guidance not only on artistic techniques but also on presentation, sequencing, and storytelling through the portfolio. Additionally, my years of experience working in admissions enable me to share a deep understanding of what academic institutions are looking for in prospective students, allowing me to better mentor and prepare students for the competitive application process. Overall, my dedication to personalized attention, comprehensive teaching, and insider experience ensures that each student receives the guidance and support needed to pursue their artistic passions and achieve their academic goals.
