About Freya
Hi, I'm Freya! I’m a second-year Music BA student at the University of Leeds, and music is at the heart of everything I do. I have been playing piano for over 10 years and have always been fascinated by the theory behind music — how harmony, melody, rhythm, and structure come together to create something meaningful.
My passion lies particularly in music theory, composition, and understanding the deeper details behind the music we hear and perform. I am currently developing my skills as a composer, exploring different musical styles and techniques, with the long-term goal of pursuing a career in composition.
Before university, I studied GCSE and A Level Music, where I developed a strong foundation in areas including notation, harmony, analysis, composition, musical terminology, and aural skills. Having recently completed these qualifications myself, I understand the difficulties students can face with theory and aim to make complex concepts easier to understand and apply.
I believe music theory should be creative, practical, and enjoyable — not just a collection of rules to memorise. My approach focuses on helping students understand why music works the way it does, giving them the confidence to analyse, compose, and appreciate music on a deeper level.
Whether you are preparing for GCSE or A Level Music, working towards ABRSM or Trinity-style theory exams, or simply wanting to strengthen your musical understanding, I offer friendly and personalised support tailored to your goals.
I love sharing my enthusiasm for music and helping students discover the same excitement I feel when exploring the world of music theory.

My music reading lessons are designed to help students feel confident and comfortable when approaching sheet music. Whether you are a complete beginner, returning to music after a break, or looking to improve your existing skills, I will tailor lessons around your individual goals and learning style.
We will cover essential skills such as reading notation, understanding rhythm, recognising notes, improving sight reading, and developing a stronger understanding of how written music translates into performance. Lessons can also include practical exercises, personalised worksheets, and guided practice to help you progress between sessions.
As a Music BA student at the University of Leeds with over 10 years of piano experience, I understand the challenges of learning to read music and aim to make the process clear, enjoyable, and rewarding.
For students preparing for exams, I can provide support with music reading skills needed for GCSE, A Level, ABRSM, and Trinity-style assessments. I also offer one-to-one Zoom lessons, ongoing support between sessions, and focused revision sessions before important exams.
My goal is to help you build independence and confidence, so that reading music becomes an exciting tool rather than something overwhelming. Whether you want to learn for enjoyment, improve your playing, or develop your musical knowledge, I will support you every step of the way.
