About Jennie
I taught as a reading specialist in Ohio for five years using evidence-based strategies and multimodal methods. I received my Master's in K-12 Reading Education and went back to grad school to get my Ph.D. in curriculum, instruction, and teacher education. My focus of study was literacy and language, specifically how people think and talk about text to make meaning from it.
As a college professor, I teach future teachers how to teach literacy according to the Science of Reading. I draw from evidence-based reading strategies to support readers at all levels.

I use a hands-on approach with authentic texts based on your student's interest. I include reading, writing, speaking, and listening in all my lessons. A typical lesson plan includes a review of the past skill, direct instruction of what the skill is, modeling, practice together, and independent practice with multiple opportunities for feedback.
