About Jess
I am currently a scholar at the renowned Royal Academy of Music in London, studying trombone under the tutelage of Jim Maynard, Matt Gee, and Ian Bousfield, Alexander Technique under Dorothea Magonet, and the Feldenkrais Method under Robert Sholl. While specialising in classical trombone, I am a versatile musician who loves to create music across a wide variety of genres - I regularly perform with Broadside Hacks, a folk collection and record label, and I am sponsored by Sir Roger Vickers in the National Youth Jazz Orchestra having played with incredible musical artists including Bob Mintzer, Lisa Simone, and Hermeto Pascoal. I have an innate drive to connect to my surrounding community and to inspire younger generations of musicians and artists. I have a fundamental belief that it's essential for others to have the opportunity to connect with the arts, with an ultimate aim of impacting and enriching others' lives through positive connection. I have taught music and art for over eight years, and currently teach at HMDT (formerly known as Hackney Music Developmental Trust) as a brass, musicianship, and theory teacher, as well as a chamber ensemble coach. I previously worked for Godolphin and Latymer Prep School and continue to work for Godolphin and Latymer. I am active in giving outreach workshops through the Widening Participation department of the Royal Academy of Music, and I have devised educational workshops with the Multi-Story Orchestra. I have training in Musical Leadership through Spitalfields Music, in Music Therapy from Nordoff–Robbins, and in a branch of neuroscience-linguistic programming from Lauren Stoney. I have performed at major venues and events across the UK, including the Barbican, Birmingham Symphony Hall, Ronnie Scott's, Bridgewater Hall, EFG London Jazz Festival, Wilderness Festival, Green Man Festival, and I have played and been interviewed on BBC Radio 3's 'In Tune'.

As an experienced musician with over eight years teaching experience, my lessons are always individually tailored - helping you explore your interests and what you want to work on! I strive to positively connect with all of my students, ensuring that they're continually inspired and motivated as they develop their musicianship and love for music with me, building strong transferable skills. I teach all brass instruments, specialising in trombone, and music theory. I also practise assist other instruments. I can confidently help you through ABRSM/Trinity theory examinations. Lesson regularity and length is what works best for you.
