About Esther

Hi, I’m Esther, a History undergraduate at Jesus College, University of Oxford.

I applied to Oxford recently, so the process is still fresh in my mind: the personal statement, submitting written work, and the nerves before interview. Now that I’m studying here, I also understand what the course is actually like and what tutors value in their students.

Alongside my degree, I tutor GCSE and A-level students privately and volunteer with the Oxford Hub’s Schools Plus programme, supporting students in state schools across Oxford.

I’m organised and honest. I’ll tell you clearly what’s working and what isn’t, and I keep parents updated on progress. If you’re serious about applying for History at Oxbridge, I’m happy to help you put together the strongest application you can.

I’m a History undergraduate at Jesus College, Oxford, and I help students applying for History at Oxford and Cambridge. I went through the process recently, so I know what it involves and what tutors are looking for.

My approach

Oxbridge History admissions aren’t about knowing more facts than everyone else. Tutors want to see how you think: whether you can read closely, build an argument, and engage with ideas you haven’t met before. My sessions focus on developing those skills, tailored to wherever you are in the process.

Wider reading: I help you go beyond the A-level syllabus and find reading that genuinely interests you, then talk it through with you so you can discuss it confidently.

Personal statement: We work on making it specific, thoughtful and clearly yours, showing real engagement with History rather than listing achievements.

Written work: I help you choose and refine an essay to submit, focusing on argument, structure and use of evidence.

Interview preparation: We run realistic mock interviews, discussing your personal statement, your written work and unseen sources or questions. I give detailed feedback on how you reason out loud, respond to challenge and develop your ideas under pressure.

Lesson length

Sessions are usually 60 minutes. Mock interviews can run as 30-minute interviews followed by feedback.
