About Maurice
I am a Kenyan-born painter currently completing my MFA at City & Guilds of London Art School. In my own practice, I use oils, acrylics, and pastels to explore the "quiet violence" and atmosphere of our modern world. I bring this professional experience into my lessons to help you move past technical hurdles and find your own creative voice.
I offer one-on-one guidance for anyone looking to master painting techniques, with a particular focus on figurative work. My goal is to give you the practical tools to create work you’re proud of, whether we are exploring colour theory, composition, or expressive mark-making. I’m easy-going and dedicated to making the studio a space where you can experiment, learn from mistakes, and skip the frustration of learning alone.

As a current MFA student at City & Guilds of London Art School, I offer professional painting and drawing lessons tailored to your specific goals. My teaching style combines traditional technical skills with modern creative thinking, helping you master everything from basic sketching to advanced oil painting techniques.
A typical lesson lasts 60 to 90 minutes and includes a practical demonstration followed by guided practice where I provide clear, one-on-one feedback. I specialise in helping GCSE and A-Level students build high-quality portfolios for university applications, but I also love working with adult beginners and intermediate artists looking to sharpen their skills. My approach is simple: I give you the technical "tools" and confidence you need to stop just practising and start creating professional-standard work. Whether we are focusing on colour theory, composition, or mark-making, the goal is to help you find your own unique style while building a solid foundation of craft.
