About Mark
I’m Mark Scott, a tutor passionate about helping students master AP History, AP Civics, and political science by connecting theory to real-world systems. With a BA in Political Science (Dean’s List, 3.63 GPA) and ongoing MS in Data Analytics, I bring a unique blend of critical analysis and evidence-based teaching to every lesson. My experience as an 8th-grade AP US History teacher taught me how to simplify complex ideas, while my work as a research assistant—designing surveys, analyzing data, and collaborating with policymakers—sharpened my ability to turn abstract concepts into engaging discussions.

I combine theoretical frameworks with real-world examples to make complex political concepts tangible. My approach emphasizes systems thinking, helping students see connections between historical events, governance structures, and current issues. Lessons are interactive, using discussions, case studies, and visual aids (e.g., timelines, policy maps) to reinforce critical analysis and retention.
Typical Lesson Plan:
(1) Concept Breakdown: Clarify key theories or historical themes.
(2) Real-World Application: Analyze case studies (e.g., Supreme Court rulings, electoral systems).
(3)Active Engagement: Debate prompts, document analysis (primary/secondary sources), or essay outlining.
(4)Systems Perspective: Explore how topics interlink (e.g., how Federalist Papers ideas shape modern policy).
(5)Feedback & Goals: Tailored review of weaknesses (e.g., DBQ strategies, thesis refinement).
What Sets Me Apart:
(1) Dual Academic Lens: Leveraging my data analytics training (MS) and political science background (BA) to teach evidence-based reasoning.
(2) Classroom Experience: Former 8th-grade APUSH teacher—skilled at simplifying advanced content.
(3) Bridging Theory & Practice: Lessons connect abstract ideas (e.g., separation of powers) to contemporary debates (e.g., executive orders).
I believe I would best serve:
(1) AP Students (US History, Civics/Gov) aiming for exam mastery.
(2) Undergraduates in intro political science, public policy, or pre-law.
(3) Learners who thrive on context, not just memorization, and want to think critically about power, policy, and historical systems.
