About Tom

Hi, I'm Tom from London. I have been singing and teaching others to sing for a long time now, starting over in Cardiff and now in and around London. I started my vocal journey through choirs and local barbershop groups, before joining an A Cappella group whilst at University. From there I got to lead and arrange for the group, as well as take part in fantastic projects, such as the Netflix series 'Sex Education'. When I moved from University to London, I joined the contemporary choir 'ChoirCo' initially as their principal bass, but now as their Music Director. I also joined the Grammy-award winning vocal group 'The Swingles' as their bass, touring internationally (most recently in the USA for a Christmas tour). I deeply love singing and the vocal world, but I'm also really passionate about not only teaching this amazing craft but unlocking people's voices and bringing out their true tone.

A normal lesson will range between 1 - 2 hours and can be tailored for both beginner and practising voices. I have been singing in barbershops, choirs and a cappella groups for the last 10 years, and currently perform with the multi-Grammy-award winning vocal group 'The Swingles'. I am additionally the Music Director of the London-based choir 'ChoirCo' which currently consists of more than 100 people meeting for weekly sessions. Through my rich experience of multiple vocal genres and experience in teaching, together we will unlock your true register, tailor your training, and improve your voice!

  • 1) When did you first develop a passion for music and your favourite instrument?

I've had a passion for music since childhood, and have always been surrounded by it. I've tried various instruments, but singing has been a constant part of my life. I joined choirs early on and continue singing today.
  • 2) Is there a particular type of music or artist that you listen to on a loop without it driving you crazy?

I never tire of vocal jazz and a cappella. If I'm relaxing, I listen to Parcels. For upbeat energy, it's Anderson Paak, Bruno Mars, or combine them together with Silk Sonic. Although, my answer to this changes daily.
  • 3) Explain to us the most difficult or riveting course you could personally give to a student of music.

Mastering technique - helping students achieve their goals and become the best in their field is the most rewarding and challenging course.
  • 4) What do you think is the most complicated instrument to master and why?

I'm biased, but I'd say singing. We all have voices, but there's an infinite amount to improve and develop when you dive into mastering it.
  • 5) What are your keys to success?

Keeping fun and enjoyment at the core of lessons. If it feels like a chore, passion fades. Fun is essential, especially since learning can be intimidating.
  • 6) Name three musicians you dream of meeting in your favourite bar in the early hours of the morning. Explain why.

Anderson Paak, Bruno Mars (Silk Sonic) for their songwriting and groove. Aretha Franklin for her amazing stories.
  • 7) Provide a valuable anecdote related to music or your days at music school.

Before my first show with The Swingles, I was so nervous I was almost crippled with fear, which before a show is not ideal. Now, when I teach confidence and overcoming nerves, I think back to that moment and how I overcame it.
  • 8) What are the little touches that make you a Superprof in music?

I focus on making lessons fun and helping students connect with their own voice. If they understand how it feels to them, they can develop and improve.
