About Greta

Hi! My name is Greta, and I am currently completing my Master of Arts in Teaching and Credentialing program at UCI. I have experience working with elementary students through my student teaching placements in both fourth grade and first grade, and I am excited to begin teaching second grade. Through these experiences, I have developed a strong passion for helping students grow academically, socially, and emotionally.
I have worked with students in whole-class, small-group, and one-on-one settings, supporting them in reading, phonics, writing, math, and homework skills. I enjoy helping students build confidence by breaking down challenging concepts into clear, manageable steps. My goal is always to create a positive and encouraging learning environment where students feel comfortable asking questions, making mistakes, and celebrating their progress.
Before my credential program, I also gained tutoring experience while attending Cal Poly San Luis Obispo. This helped me learn how to adapt my explanations to each student’s needs and support different learning styles. As a tutor, I am patient, flexible, and dedicated to helping each student feel successful.
I am passionate about education because I believe every student is capable of growth when they feel supported, understood, and encouraged.

My approach as a tutor is patient, encouraging, and individualized. I try to meet each student where they are and build from there. I believe tutoring should not just be about getting the right answer, but helping the student understand the skill behind the answer so they can apply it independently later.
Teaching method and techniques:
I use clear modeling, guided practice, and then independent practice. I like to break concepts down step by step, use visuals or examples when needed, and check for understanding throughout the lesson. I also use questioning strategies to help students explain their thinking instead of simply giving them the answer. For younger students, I often include movement, repetition, phonics practice, manipulatives, or games to keep the lesson engaging while still structured.
Typical lesson plan:
A typical tutoring session would begin with a quick check-in and review of what the student has been working on. Then, I would identify the main goal for the session, such as decoding words with a specific phonics pattern, solving subtraction word problems, improving reading comprehension, or organizing a paragraph. I would model the skill first, work through examples with the student, and then give them a chance to practice independently with support as needed. At the end, I would review what we learned, celebrate growth, and give a small next step or practice goal.
