About Nancy
I approach ESL tutoring as a personalized journey that blends structured learning with encouragement, creativity, and cultural insight. With three years of experience teaching learners of varying ages and proficiency, I emphasize practical communication skills while ensuring students gain a solid grasp of grammar and vocabulary. I believe that language is best learned through use, so I design lessons filled with speaking activities, listening comprehension exercises, writing prompts, and reading tasks that relate directly to students’ lives and interests. Pronunciation practice and listening exposure to diverse English accents are integral parts of my curriculum, helping students develop natural, confident speech and understanding. I also incorporate technology and multimedia to engage different learning styles and supplement classroom learning with fun, interactive tools. I strive to create a welcoming, patient environment where students feel comfortable taking risks and making mistakes—key steps on the path to fluency. I tailor my teaching to support students preparing for exams, traveling abroad, or enhancing career prospects, always focusing on building real-world skills and confidence. A particularly gratifying experience was guiding a student from hesitant beginner to confident conversationalist in a year, thanks to consistent practice and personalized support. My goal is to inspire a lasting passion for English and empower students to communicate effectively in all areas of life.

In my experience as an ESL teacher, I have found that the best way to engage students is to combine structured lessons with a flexible, personalized approach that allows for spontaneity, creativity, and fun. Language acquisition is not just about memorizing vocabulary and grammar; it’s about using the language as a tool to express oneself, connect with others, and open up new opportunities.
I provide clear and systematic grammar instruction, ensuring that students understand the structure of the language and how to apply it in real-life situations. However, I believe that grammar should always be used in context, so I structure lessons around practical communication scenarios like social interactions, workplace discussions, or travel-related conversations.
This practical approach ensures that students can immediately apply what they’ve learned to situations they are likely to encounter. I also prioritize listening and speaking skills, encouraging students to engage in conversations as much as possible, even if it means making mistakes along the way.
Mistakes are part of the learning process, and creating a safe, supportive environment where students can take risks is crucial to their development. One of my most rewarding teaching moments came when I helped a student with a limited vocabulary develop the confidence to participate in a group conversation.
With consistent practice, personalized vocabulary exercises, and a focus on listening comprehension, they went from being hesitant to expressing themselves confidently. I also use technology to make learning more interactive and fun—apps for vocabulary building, games for grammar practice, and podcasts to improve listening skills. Ultimately, my mission is to help students not only improve their English but also feel comfortable and excited about using it in their everyday lives.
