About Michael
I am a passionate flute tutor who loves helping students of all ages explore music creatively and confidently. My teaching combines mentorship, accountability, and critical thinking to guide students effectively. I focus on tone, phrasing, rhythm, and breath control while encouraging expressive playing. I also teach music theory, sight-reading, and ear training to develop complete musicianship. Creativity is emphasised through improvisation, composition, and musical storytelling. I guide students to set goals, practice consistently, and monitor their progress. Mistakes are treated as natural learning opportunities and steps towards improvement. I adapt my teaching style to each student’s pace, level, and personal interests.
I act as a mentor, offering guidance, motivation, and constructive feedback. Lessons are structured yet engaging, balancing technical work with creative exploration. I emphasise reflection, problem-solving, and independent thinking in every session. My goal is to help students build confidence, independence, and a lifelong love for music. I also teach related subjects such as performance preparation, rhythm, and theory. I create a positive and supportive environment where students feel comfortable experimenting. My ultimate aim is to help students become expressive, confident, and passionate musicians.

My flute teaching approach is centred on creativity, growth, and structured learning. I believe students learn best when they feel supported and inspired. Each lesson encourages critical thinking and personal expression. I act as a mentor who motivates students to explore their own musical voice. Accountability helps students stay disciplined and consistent in their practice. I guide them to set goals and track their progress step by step. Lessons focus on tone, rhythm, breath control, and phrasing. I also include music theory, sight-reading, and ear training to develop a complete understanding of music. Creativity is encouraged through improvisation and composing short pieces. I help students reflect on their playing and use mistakes as learning opportunities.
My teaching is flexible and adapts to each student’s pace and level. I emphasise patience, curiosity, and problem-solving skills. I create a positive and encouraging environment where students feel confident to try new things. Along with flute, I teach related subjects such as theory and performance preparation. My ultimate goal is to help students become independent, expressive, and confident musicians.
