About Janaki
I graduated from U of Florida with honors in Criminology and African American Studies. I am trained as a researcher in Criminology with a focus on domestic violence law and critical race theory. I have published research regarding Florida's Stand Your Ground legislation and suggested policy modifications.
Currently serving as a in-school Science/ELA tutor at CPS through City Year. I provide 1:1, small group and whole class tutoring support to students 2-3 grade levels behind their benchmark, and progress monitor to ensure that they increase standardized test scores.
All lesson plans are developed by NWEA/Descartes standards, with modifications based on students' skill level/subject area opportunities for growth.
I tutor primarily in ELA with a Science focus for middle school students, but can tutor in SAT and Math up to Geometry as well.
In addition to in-school tutoring, I also help run an after school homework help program for grades K-8 and teach during homework help sessions as well.

I am experienced with tutoring at elementary, high school and college levels. I tutor formally for grades 3-8 at a CPS school, and have taught trial law to undergraduate students at UF.
My methodology emphasizes critical thinking and conceptual linking so that students are well rounded in their understanding of material, and can practically apply what they are learning. Currently, I teach Life Science, Earth Science and Introductory Physics for grade 6-8 with the Amplify curriculum. I supplement the curriculum with outside readings per subject and lab experiments to emphasize understanding.
