About Julia
Hello! My name is Julia and I offer humanities-based tutoring lessons. I received my MA in Contemporary History and International Politics, and my BA in History with a minor in Sociology.
I have classroom experience in middle and high school, along with virtual educational content creation for history classes. Although I am now a Community Engagement Representative for a local Austin company, my passion for education, writing, and history has brought me back to teaching!
My passion for teaching is rooted in a commitment to critical thinking in an increasingly complex world. While information is more accessible than ever, learning how to evaluate, question, and interpret it effectively can be challenging. Through my lessons, I aim to help students develop these essential skills so they can confidently engage with information and navigate the world beyond the classroom.
I am a highly organized individual, and pride myself on dependability and empathy. Each session is carefully planned to ensure clarity, progress, and a supportive learning environment. I truly hope to foster growth and be a pillar of support for my students.

My general tutoring approach is to first understand each student's specific needs, challenges, and learning styles so that I can tailor my lessons accordingly. I am well versed in Texas educational standards and TEKS methodology, but also understand how these standards tend to neglect certain aspects of a student's growth. My goal is to both ensure the student is succeeding in school and meeting these standards, while also fostering a broader understanding of the world outside of curriculum based learning.
What sets me apart as a tutor is my graduate level academic training and real classroom and lesson planning experience. I understand the importance of skill development when it comes to the humanities (reading comprehension, both structured and creative writing skills, organization and analysis), and focus on strengthening these core skills rather than simply completing a lesson through memorization. These skills have proven to aid students across various subjects, increasing their overall performance in educational settings.
All of my lessons begin with asking the student about themselves, their learning styles and goals for the session. My aim here is understanding how I can engage the student with the material in a positive manner. I then begin the main lesson, which may take a variety of forms including breaking down texts, modeling essay structure, working through assignments together, or practicing exam-style questions. Lessons end with reflection and concrete next steps so students leave knowing exactly what to practice and why it matters.
My lessons are designed for middle and high school students, along with early undergraduate students studying history, English, social studies/sociology, politics, or humanities-based courses. I also offer sessions for upper level undergraduates taking history and politics centered courses who need support with essay writing and content analysis. My goal is to make learning approachable, engaging, and empowering for every student I work with.
