About Remco
I’ve been writing and performing music for nearly 20 years, starting out as a teenager with a deep love for songwriters such as Bob Dylan and Leonard Cohen, as well as early blues musicians from the 1920s and ’30s.
In my twenties, I went on to study music at the Utrecht Conservatory in the Netherlands, where I completed both a Bachelor’s and a Master’s degree in contemporary composition. During this time, I developed a strong interest in setting poetry to music, which has since become a particular specialty of mine.
I currently work in Dublin as a musical tour guide, performing poetry set to music at various literary landmarks. My repertoire includes works by writers such as Oscar Wilde and James Joyce, and I perform regularly at events and festivals including Bloomsday, the International Literature Festival Dublin, and Culture Night.
I now live in County Wexford, near Gorey.

In my lessons, I take a creative approach alongside the technical side of learning. The two go hand in hand, especially if you’re interested in writing your own music.
I start by getting a sense of what inspires you: the songs you love or the styles you’re drawn to. From there, we build the technical skills needed to support your playing and creativity. This can include chords and chord symbols, tabs, and lead sheets.
I also encourage students to rely on their ears as much as their eyes. While reading music is useful, music is ultimately something you experience and express through listening and playing.
Above all, lessons are about enjoying the process. I aim to create a relaxed, supportive environment where you can grow in confidence, explore your creativity, and have fun making music.
