About Ethan
Hello, I’m Ethan, and I’m passionate about helping students develop their skills, confidence, and enthusiasm for learning, whether it’s in academics or in music. With a background in economics and law, and a commitment to precision and clarity, I bring a structured, supportive, and patient approach to my tutoring.
In my academic lessons, I focus on making challenging subjects accessible by breaking down complex concepts into easy-to-understand steps, encouraging active learning through practice problems, and fostering critical thinking. My sessions are customized to meet each student’s unique needs, ensuring they build a strong foundation and confidence in their abilities.
As a piano tutor, my aim is to instill a love for music alongside technical skills. I believe music education should be engaging, so I use a mix of familiar songs, interactive exercises, and performance techniques to inspire students. I emphasize progress in a way that is both supportive and challenging, helping students develop rhythm, musical expression, and confidence in their performance.
Professionalism and reliability are my priorities. I am always prepared, punctual, and committed to providing an encouraging and respectful learning environment. By working together, we’ll achieve your goals and enjoy the journey along the way. I look forward to helping you excel and make learning a rewarding experience!

As a piano tutor, my approach centers on making each lesson both educational and inspiring, helping students not only master techniques but also connect with the music they play. Here’s how I structure my teaching approach:
Teaching Method and Techniques
I emphasize a combination of technical skill-building and musical expression. In lessons, we often split time between practicing scales, finger exercises, and specific pieces chosen to match the student’s level and goals. I use demonstrations and encourage students to listen and observe carefully, helping them develop an ear for rhythm and melody. Additionally, I make sure to build sight-reading and aural skills, as these foster confidence and a deeper understanding of the music.
To keep students motivated, I use a goal-oriented approach with clear milestones, whether it’s mastering a piece, improving sight-reading, or developing a particular technique. For young or beginner students, I introduce fun rhythm exercises and familiar songs to keep them engaged.
A Typical Lesson Plan
Warm-Up (5 minutes): Start with scales or finger exercises to develop dexterity and focus.
Review of Previous Lesson (10 minutes): Go over the pieces and techniques practiced in the previous lesson, addressing any challenges.
New Material (20 minutes): Introduce new pieces or techniques, breaking down challenging sections. I’ll often demonstrate and provide tips on phrasing and dynamics.
Hands-On Practice (15 minutes): Students try the new material, with guidance on fingering, timing, and expression. We might also spend a bit of time on theory if it’s relevant to the piece.
Feedback & Next Steps (5 minutes): We summarize progress, set goals for practice, and discuss areas for improvement.
What Sets Me Apart as a Tutor
I believe my strengths lie in my patience and adaptability. I understand that every student learns differently, so I tailor my lessons to suit their pace, preferences, and musical interests. My aim is to nurture a genuine love for music, not just technical proficiency, and I encourage students to explore different genres and styles to find what resonates with them.
Who the Lessons Are For
I teach beginner to intermediate piano students, from young children to adults. My lessons are ideal for those looking to build foundational skills, prepare for recitals, or develop their technique further. Whether the student’s goal is to play for enjoyment or with performance ambitions, I’m committed to helping them reach their potential with enthusiasm and expertise.
